An outstandingly musical drummer. At home playing Jazz, Latin, Drum'n'Bass, Rock, his style makes him one of the busiest drummers on the northern scene. One of the Tutors at Leeds College of Music, teaching one on one drum tuition on the B.A. Jazz course, the B.A. Popular music course, the B.T.E.C. Jazz Course, the N.D. Popular music course and the Music foundation course. A Brief history. Chetham's school of music. Age 14. 4 years. Percussion, Drum kit, Piano, Music theory/harmony. Jazz Quartet 4-wheel drive. Won the "National music for Youth" competition at age 15 and played in The Royal Albert Hall, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Royal Festival Hall, The Purcell Rooms, The Free Trade hall and appeared on various TV shows. Studied drum kit for 1 year with the great drum player/educator Dave Hassell Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Studied Percussion. Left after one year to pursue a career as a jazz drummer. Played in a pop band called A2Z featuring the child star Aled Jones Moved back to Manchester. Became a fulltime northern based Pro Drummer in 1992 Featured bands of the last few years. Mike hall's (Tenor sax) band Blueprint. They also recorded an album called "Feel the Warmth" Jimpster project. (Kudos records and Freerange Records) He played on three widely acclaimed E.P's, Many remixes and the first album, "Messages from the Hub" Dave also wrote one of the tunes on that album which was licensed to two other albums. The Phoenix Festival The Steve Berry Trio/Quartet/Quintet. Although this trio has only been together for a short while and done a few select gigs, the combination of Steve, Les Chisnall (Piano), and Dave has formed a great musical partnership. Steve very wisely recorded a gig in 2002 and the result was the trio's first album "Fortune Heights". Then in the spring of 2004, Steve organised a coupe of gigs with a bigger group. A quartet with me and Steve featuring Iain Dixon and Mike Walker and then a Quintet gig with Mike Walker and Andy Scholfield played with the trio at the Sefton Jazz week. Then the quinitet performed a gig at the Manchester Jazz Festival 2004 and the recording of the gig became an album called "In an Ideal World" Check out the album on the Cd's page. The Rod Mason's "Elements". The old band recorded 2 albums. One of the most popular bands on the northern jazz scene. Powerful and uncompromising. Now the band has been renamed and had a personal change. The project, called Elements, features the same energy of Rod with the new rhythm section force of paino/keyboard favourite Richard Wetherall and the mighty bass playing skills of Richard Hammond. Check out the new album "Underlying Current" available through Jazzcd's.co.uk. The Ben Crosland Quartet featuring Steve Waterman (Trumpet & Flugal Horn) and Guitar wizard Stuart McCallum. The quartet recorded 2 albums during it's 4 year life.. The band toured right across the UK several times. . Mike Hope's (Tenor Sax) JazzMaHoot! A Chordless (no Piano or guitar) quartet featuring 2 horns, double bass and drums. Rosie Brown Quartet. Fantastic vocalist with a wonderfully sensitive trio featuring the great piano talent of Richard Wetherall. Dave has featured on Rosie's second album "Now is the Time" 2000 and her third album "Ms Brown to You" 2003 Graham Massey's (808 state) "Toolshed" Dave featured as one of the drummers involved in Massey's massive project. "Sun-Ra through to Hard Techno!" Dave also featured on the much-awaited Toolshed album, now released. This project has played all over the UK, supported the late great Joe Zawinul at the bridgwater hall in 2005, featured on BBC-3's Mixing in 2005, appeared on Radio-1's Mary Anne Hobbs show in 2006 and featured in a Channel 4 documentary. The Stuart McCallum Trio Featuring Iain Dixon. This is a totally new and liberating project that will see more in the recording sense than live i think! It's a chance for all three of us to just play and try to find some musical truth in the moment. Featuring guitar giant Staurt McCallum and the awesome musically of Iain Dixon, Ifeel very privaliged to be part of this band. This is a totally free band with no preconcieved idea of what we are gonna do. Jim Mullen/Rod Mason Quartet North . This was a band that was put together out of a one off chance gig that was great fun so rod and jim set about organising some gigs around the northern jazz circuit.
